So I haven't really dedicated myself to keeping up with this, I had some short story going, but I deleted it all because I just wasn't happy with what I had written. I felt like it didn't have any heart in it. It has been since August since I last logged on here, which was basically when this was created. The pictures above are of Chloe, she was born in January, and what can I say... I'm in love. It was an instant thing for me too. As soon as I saw her, I loved her. Now she's 3 months, and just look at her... Have you ever seen a cuter face? I don't think so.
I started a practice with her as soon as we got home from the hospital, and that is, whenever I change her diaper I put my iPod and and play her music. I used to say she never cried when I changed her diaper BECAUSE I played her music, but now after 3 months I know that isn't the case... She hardly cries at all. So what I like to do now is, before Holli gets home and after my mom leaves, I sit in her room with her a few minutes everyday and play her music while we are rocking in her chair.
I've been accused of not listening to any music that has come out post 1995 and that is partly true. I've gotten crazy before and listened to the White Stripes and some other newer things, I've tried to get into Kings of Leon, It wasn't for me... I like the popular songs, but couldn't get into the rest... I've gotten recommendations from my friends that are into the trendy music (my term). I always tell them, none of the stuff today sounds as good to me as the old stuff. I say that right now as I am listening to my Zeppelin box set. It's one of the few bands I can listen to on the random setting on my iPod and like everything that comes on. I feel that way about Dark Side Of The Moon too. I really enjoy listening to soft music, in particular Amos Lee, he's newer.... I guess what my biggest problem is, I don't want to listen to a bunch of skinny kids in tight jeans with brah hair whinning into a microphone... Plus the names, I always talk to Kirn about this, and feel like I could look around on my desk and come up with a new trendy band name... Date Stamp Key Chain... or how about Paper Clip Stapler... I think my favorite one of all time is Kirn's "Leo" Especially if you could see the picture that goes with it.
What I normally do when I sit down with Chloe is put on whatever I'm in the mood for. It could be Ray Charles, it could be Zeppelin, or Lionel Ritchie. I can tell you what it won't ever be... Justin Bieber. Or Beaver as I thought it was a few months back, before Holli corrected me. I have guilty pleasures too. I love the Safety Dance by Men Without Hats, I love just about anything Toto put out. I have PM Dawn on my iPod... Tell me you didn't like I'd die without you and I'll tell you, you are a liar. I remember jamming to NKOTB when I was younger. Hanging Tough... Of course.
I remember having people tell me to listen to The Fray, Modest Mouse, Franz Ferdinand, Cold War Kids, Arcade Fire and others I know I'm leaving out. I know all these bands have a place, just not on my iPod or in Chloe's ears... I'll take Ray, Aretha, Billy, Elton, Seger, Elvis, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Doors, The Animals, The Kinks, Nirvana, Pearl Jam and many others, and you can keep the new stuff coming out.
In 20 years will anyone really remember the trendy bands of today? I guess only time will tell, but I can tell you this, the ones I just listed above, that I prefer, will be...
